About

The farmstead is the 1870s home of San Diego pioneer Zenas Sikes, who purchased a 2,500 acre parcel of the former Rancho San Bernardo in 1869 and was one of the first commercial wheat farmers in the San Diego area. Originally a rustic one-room adobe, the house was expanded into a seven-room Victorian farmhouse and, at the end of the 19th century, transformed into a dairy ranch. The property is owned by the City of San Diego. The NSCDA-CA San Diego Town Committee owns most of the furnishings and has also done extensive research on the Sikes family.
