About
Dating to the Spanish town plan of 1573, the property is a feature along Aviles Street, the city’s first platted thoroughfare. Spanish merchant Andres Ximenez built this two-story coquina house and detached kitchen, c.1798 for use as a general store, tavern and general residence. After Florida became a US Territory in 1821, the property began a half-century of use by a succession of enterprising women as a residence and boarding house for visitors to St. Augustine.See our Museum Collection
