About
This house was designed by Asher Benjamin, a well-known architect of the early republic, and built for James Colburn in 1808. After several owners, one of which was the author William Hickling Prescott, the Massachusetts Society purchased it in 1944 as their headquarters. Upstairs the museum floor contains Prescott’s study, looking much as it did when he used it every day, and a Federal period bedroom.National Historic Landmark
