- 1 alphabet: 26 letters plus ampersand. Motifs of butterflies, flowers, birds. trees, a man at bottom L and a female in a long gown at bottom R. A tree at bottom center with a large bird at the center. Reversing arcaded carnation border all four sides. (Note: this sampler was probably worked in the first school for Native Americans on Mackinac Island, Michigan under the instruction of Marianne Schindler Fisher. Elizabeth was her daughter. Be sure to see sampler #4500 made by Rose Bailly and #4456 made by Sophie Bailly done at the same school) Samplers made by Native Americans are exceedingly rare.
