Inscription
HOW VAIN ARE ALL THINGS HERE BELOW / If you desire to worship God aright, / First in the morning Pray and last at night. / And crave his blessings on your labours all, / And in distress for his assistance call. Elizabeth Hesketh is my name / England is my nation / Hindly is my dwelling Place / And christ is my Salvation. (Note: Elizabeth used both the long and the short style letter S. She ran out of space for the word salvation and squeezed it in tiny letters.)
