- 2 alphabets: both missing J, one ampersand. Numbers 1-21. Motifs of butterflies, flowers, birds. trees, a man at bottom L and a female in a long gown at bottom R. A tree at bottom center with a large bird at the center. Reversing arcaded carnation border all four sides. (Note: this sampler was probably worked in the first school for Native Americans on Mackinac Island, Michigan under the instruction of Marianne Schindler Fisher. Sophie's great uncle was the Ottawa chief Pontiac) Be sure to see sampler #4500 made by Sophie's cousin Rose Bailly, and sampler #4814 made by Elisabeth Fisher, daughter of the instructor). Samplers made by Native Americans are exceedingly rare.
