Notes
Also Stitched by: Carr, Wait. 1737, n.p., p. 36; Holden, Katherine. 1733, n.p., p.52 (Possibly, see error notice); Rhodes, Elizabeth. 1776, n.p., p. 71 A close variation appears in a register of burials for St. James the Lesser, Tatham, Lancashire, England, UK. Appears after the last burial of the year 1714 and reads as follows: “Could we foresee our nearness to the Grave, What thoughts, what cogitations should we have?” This suggests an earlier or contemporary source of the verse yet to be found.
