Come See Where America Became America

Great American Treasures are stories — BIG and small — of how America became America. At our more than 60 historic sites, you’ll meet heroes and scoundrels, pioneers and patriots, and the everyday folk you won’t find on stamps or in history books — people who made indelible contributions to the world we know. And best of all, you’ll meet them in their natural surroundings.

The NSCDA Great American Treasures Museum Alliance Grant

Part of the NSCDA’s mission is rooted in historic preservation: the protection of cultural heritage, people, and places. The NSCDA Great American Treasures Museum Alliance is the  the truest expression of that commitment to our nation’s history.

To date, sixty-four historic properties, museums, and memorials have joined this free program that unites their passion, resources, and reach. As a member, the NSCDA provides these sites with unified branding, free marketing, annual membership to the American Alliance of Museums, scholarships to the Attingham Summer School, staff roundtables and professional development programs, and eligibility for the NSCDA Great American Treasures Museum Alliance Grant.

The NSCDA Museum Alliance Grant was created through the NSCDA Comprehensive Campaign which concluded in 2020. The one-million-dollar endowment supports an annual draw providing grants to Great American Treasures properties ranging in size from $2,500-$12,500.

The online application opens on June 14 and closes on August 4. Winners will be announced by email and social media at the NSCDA National Conference on October 23.
