Sampler is divided into three sections with motifs in 1 and 3 and a verse in number 2. Motifs include small trees, baskets and urns with flowers, two animals. Unusual arcaded carnation border all four sides with dividing lines.

(In center panel): Savior Oh what ails this heaart / Sure tis of stone is cannot smart / Nor yet relent the Death of thee / Whose Death alone can ransom me. (Across bottom): Mary Johnston finished this piece in the Tenth Year of her age May 21st 1836.
