- Behold the Savior at thy door
He gently knocks, has knocked before
Has waited long, is waiting still
You treat no other friend so ill
Admit him or the hour’s at hand
When at his door denied you’ll stand.

This is the first stanza of Joseph Grigg’s hymn Behold the Saviour at thy Door, which was first published in pamphlet form in 1765. No copy of this pamphlet appears online. It was reprinted in several hymnals after that date, including the reference to John Dobell’s Hymnal as cited in Bolton and Coe on page 326.
