About

Built in 1880, the framed, single-family house has been restored to the style of 1800-85 when Gen. Henry Boyton Clitz was Commander of the Fort. In 1980, the Detroit Historical Museum received a grant to initiate the restoration of the Commandant’s House and the Michigan Society agreed to support the project and renovate and furnish the interior. The house was opened to the public in 1986.
